One Laptop per Child partners with Marvell to produce tablet for education

Last week the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project announced that it will work with Marvell to create a new educational tablet for children in the U.S. and around the world. According to the press release, the tablet will include Marvell’s Moby platform and features such as a multi-lingual keyboard with touch feedback, Wi-Fi, and built-in video and still camera. In a video on the Bits Blog, Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of OLPC project, says that it is hoped that the device will have a dual mode display that work both indoors and in direct sunlight. Mr. Negroponte also said that every aspect of the project will be open source.

The companies expect to debut the first version of the tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2011. By CES 2012, it is expected that a completely plastic and unbreakable tablet will debut.
