Earlier this month, California became the first state in the U.S. to launch an initiative that will offer high school students free, open-source digital textbooks. According to the
press release, content developers across the country will be asked to submit digital content for review and then a list of standards-aligned, open-source digital textbooks for high school math and science will be developed. The resources will be available for use in California high schools beginning this fall. If this initiative is successful, we could begin to see other states follow California’s lead in the K-12 space or even higher education.
